Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Third session with the student, went over reading and English sections. Worked on timing on reading, since she is still struggling with the 35 minute time limit. Instructed her to bring a watch for our final session so we can work on self timing."
"We discussed the scoring of the SAT essay and tips for structure and length. The student practiced with some SAT essay brainstorming. Between now and the test date, she will try to gather source summaries to use as examples."
"The student and I worked on his review for the final. We made it about half way through today. We'll probably meet again to finish the review packet and then we'll see what other work the teacher gives for preparation."
"We began the session with skip counting, with number line and stickers. The student is spelling very well. Her skills have improved tremendously over just the two weeks I've known her. I see a lot of concepts falling in to place, and her work ethic and focus are stronger. I'm very pleased with her progress in our sessions, and kudos to her school teachers and family for their work."
"Digestive system: oral cavity, bolus, salivary and pancreatic amylase, pharynx, epiglottis, esophagus, stomach, chyme, pepsin, gastric juice, pepsinogen, pancreatic trypsin and chymotrypsin, peptidases, nucleases, lipases, bile, gallbladder, lacteal, villi and microvilli, hepatic portal vein, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, cecum, appendix, ascending, transverse, and descending large intestine, rectum, anus; functions of liver"
"The student and I did an entire English ACT section to see how much he had retained from a few weeks ago. We then discussed the 18 questions he missed and the topics he would need to review further. I assigned another English section for HW."
"The student and I spent our time going over inverse functions and composite functions in pre-cal. After working through a few, I realized that her basic algebra skills need some work, so next time I'm going to give her some principles on how to manipulate equations in algebra."
"The student had done several sections on her own, and was surprised about how few questions she got wrong. Building her confidence continues to be an important goal. We reviewed essay writing, brainstorming a few prompts together. She will write an essay for our next session. We continued by completing several sections together. I noticed that the student is not comfortable with simultaneous equations, and weird symbol functions, so I will bring some extra review next week."
"Today we worked on participles, infinitives and gerunds. We reviewed the differences between them and completed the review section. In addition we reviewed subjects, direct objects, appositives, verbs and verbals."
"The student and I worked on solving trigonometric identity proofs. He has a solid understanding of how to manipulate trig functions and just needs a little practice solving some of the more difficult problems."
"Worked with the student on revising and editing a composition that she wrote over the weekend. We are currently working on moving her compositions from a 2 to a 3."
"Today we completed nearly two pages of multiplication story problems in the student's workbook, so that the parent can show his homeschool online course teacher. I am very, very proud of the student's progress, especially on this multiplication!"
