Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For this session, we returned to assessment test prep. The student did three reading passage exercises. He did them very independently and well: he had 15 correct answers out of 17 questions. He asked me no questions while reading and readily understood the correct answers for the two he had missed. Next, we reviewed literary terms. The student is still a bit confounded by "simile," "metaphor," and "person." We'll continue to work on those during our next session."
"Student A and I had a session and read four books together. He read two all by himself (his paper books from school then we worked through a couple pages of "Pete the Cat"). He's getting stronger in pairing the letters with their sounds but struggles when I ask him to tell me what a word is. He'll say he doesn't know but if we break it down and I ask him what each letter is and then what sound each letter makes and then what words those sounds make he can figure it out! Student B and I went over her math homework which was almost entirely correct. We reviewed her Spanish words and then had a couple practice spelling tests. At the end she wanted to keep going which was heartwarming. She offered practicing multiplication to get me to stay! She loves to learn!"
"Yesterday we went over memoirs, poetry, drama, and realistic fiction. He did very well remembering characteristics of each literary text. We then went ahead and started with informative texts relating to Social Studies. Besides looking at the characteristics, we also answered the questions to why the American Revolution, the U.S. Constitution and the Civil War were so important to know about. He read a few passages, some for information, and others to see how is reading speed is coming along. He is doing well, he is very open to learning."
