Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed his project. Writing out the calculations was difficult for him. We worked through it and he did very well to finish all the work he had in such a small amount of time. He did not finish the actual menu, but that was the creative part, so he should be able to do that alone. I will see him when he gets back from break."
"The student and I reviewed his science homework and then spent most of the tutoring session working on complex fractions for his math quiz on Monday. He seemed to understand the concept, but as the questions became a little more complex, he started making a few small mathematical errors. Once I pointed them out, he corrected his mistakes. Overall, he did well on the worksheet."
"The student and I reviewed his spelling homework for the week. We did one of the two weekly assignments. We also reviewed some math multiplication problems. He did well and got them all right. He seems to be a going a little faster, as well."
"The student and I reviewed his test from Monday. He is a very bright student but struggles with the lecture style teaching and lack of resources provided both in and outside of class. His mom and I spoke about how we can get resources to him and receive some support from the school. He also started a new unit, so we reviewed his homework and some of the new concepts. I think he will do better in this unit, because perimeter and area are more tangible concepts, and can be seen in all areas of life. He will have an easier time relating once they have more material from the unit."
"The student and I reviewed how to find an equation of a tangent line. We reviewed how to find the point, how to find the slope, and then how to write the actual equation. We also reviewed differentials, and will do more work on that on Tuesday! The student worked very hard, and it was a pleasure to work with him!"
"The student and I reviewed how to make ten and double-double facts. He identified how to use these two concepts to add three numbers. He did well with the double-double facts but struggled with identifying the ten facts quickly and adding on after. We also read a Level E book. I noticed that the student struggled with two-syllable words. We went over strategies to help him recognize chunks and smaller words in the bigger words."
