Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Tonight we started with the review of letters and their sounds, and he is improving on this. We continued working on the -an and -ad word families, and then we focused on the short e and h sounds. We weren't able to complete the h lesson, so we will continue with that tomorrow."
"We went over the simple future with regular and irregular verbs; the present tense with regular verbs; the verb to go; the reflexive pronouns; the reflexive verbs; how to conjugate in the reflexive; the demonstrative pronouns; and the subject pronouns."
"Today we worked on the rules of Exponents for the first hour of his session. He is starting this topic in class and was interested in picking up more knowledge of the subject for the math part of the SSAT. We covered adding and multiplying exponents, expressing roots as fractional exponents, and negative exponents. I urged him to use an online prep tool to practice these topics. We also briefly covered the metric system, as apparently he hasn't been taught this in school. We then went over the second math section from his practice test and discussed his answers and approaches."
"Today, we specifically went over the SAT Math section. We first did some algebra. Then, the student did a timed Math section from a practice SAT. Her biggest struggle is time management. I think the only way for her to remedy that is to keep practicing so she gets exposure to all the types of questions the SAT can offer. She also has to process the information given in the questions faster so she can do the work. I told her if a question is taking too much time, then she should skip it because all of the questions are valued the same. I gave her links to learning tools and other practice tests for her to practice on her own."
"The student took her vocabulary test, which revealed she has a strong grasp on definitions, but may still need development in spelling and handwriting. With this in mind, I'll gear future sessions to include all the above."
"We covered practice questions in English and Math. The students were respectful and attentive. They are memorizing equations before the test on Saturday."
