Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Session was a good improvement. Divided time between reading comprehension, math and synonyms. In math, we worked solely on word problems involving ratios. He really caught on to the concept. In reading, his ability to understand the nonfiction package was much better than the fiction. When we worked them out together, he did well on the fiction responses. He did very well on the nonfiction package. With synonyms, we are working on trying to know the word, use spanish knowledge to work on words he might not know and how to try to put the word in a context that he hears. If he wants to work on synonyms (which would be really helpful to him) he can go on the tutoring site under the SSAT Elementary Level and do the flashcards."
"The student and I had a great session. We worked through a couple of homework questions that he had been struggling with, but with only a little bit of help, he was able to do the problems on his own. I then gave him a practice test on resonance and acid/base concepts that I had him work through. He did very very well. He got most of the resonance correct, and got 100% of the acid base problems correct that I presented him with. Our next session is scheduled for Wednesday."
"The student and I spent the first thirty minutes of the session going over essay material from a practice prompt that I had given her at the end of our last session. We then moved onto the other homework she had done, and she was diligent and continues to work hard toward increasing her understanding of the material. We are still having weekly discussions about timing, but with the work she's put in outside of the sessions, I have definitely seen an improvement."
"The student and I worked on ACT Science and Reading. She did well on science, but her performance on the reading section still needs work. We will continue to work on that section. I gave her a homework assignment to complete before our next session on Monday."
"The student was wonderful last night! Her reading was very good, even with some more difficult words. She slowed down and sounded them out perfectly. Her recall for answers was also good. We also spent time talking about thesis statements, understanding what a "good" one looks like and practicing creating them by bringing together two topics into one idea. Great job!"
"This is our first session. We reviewed thermochemistry and gases for the student's exam for tomorrow. We went over the questions in the study guide. We have discussed possible common mistakes in answering the problems."
