Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on proofs and a review of the math portion of the PSAT. We talked about how to set up a proof, write statements and reasons, and we talked about common theorems that are used. We worked out a few proofs together. At the end of the session, I gave him some practice PSAT questions. He did well on the algebra-style questions. I think it would be a good idea for him to do a practice PSAT test. Many of the topics on the test are things he learned years ago, so refreshing those topics in practice test would be helpful."
"The student worked on homework relating to a microprocessor simulator that has a limited instruction set. I believe understanding is close. A quick follow up tomorrow will tie up the loose ends."
"The student's scores are not reflective of his current abilities. We started by going over his reading, and then moving to English, science and some math. In each section he performed better than his score would lead you to believe. To more accurately gauge his current abilities I've given him a test."
"The student did super well today. She understands material well and looks at the big picture of things. Sometimes while test taking, the big picture approach can make things more difficult. So, we are focusing on looking at text evidence to find the best answer choice. She actually did very well on the practice questions on commas. We will focus on these rules to help her with the Language and Punctuation sections of the test. As she learns the rules of grammar, she will become more confident, and I am sure her scores will improve in this area."
"We covered the non-calculator portion of an SAT practice exam. The student needed help with some of the more difficult concepts in algebra, so we covered how to review some concepts. She has to complete the rest of the exam for homework. She had a good attitude throughout the session."
"With the students, we covered the letters y and z in cursive and discussed multiplying decimals. They both did a great job. They will have extra practice in this category. With Student 3, we worked on missing addends and subtrahends. He did great work and was focused the whole session."
