Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we had a discussion on the available test- decision SAT II Physics. We went over lab design and the role of measurement, as well as lab report writing; specifically in communicating procedural measurement and reporting on sources of error."
"Today we worked on math. Both students are strong in math. Overall, they did well, and I left them with an assignment for next week in their books."
"We started with the first chapter of the book. The student has experience with German, so we could go over a lot of material today. We practiced self-introduction and introduction of other people; we talked about word order in main clauses with one verb. We also discussed how to ask a question with or without a question word. We then practiced the alphabet and the numbers."
"The student brought his second draft of his first essay. It was an excellent draft, a massive improvement on the first one, and it looks really, really good already. We talked about how to shorten the introductions to sentences and how to look for repeating concepts to cut down on the word count. His homework is to make this draft shorter and more succinct so that we can finalize it in the parameters of the Common App requirements."
"We spent most of the session working on logic games and strategies both for answering individual questions and for which questions to do first. We also worked on some assumption and disagreement logical reasoning questions. The student took a practice test over the weekend and got her highest score yet, a 153! Next time, we will try to run drills on logic games and reading, then work on accuracy for the logical reasoning."
"We worked on a new outline for the student's college essay using the draft she provided. She was responsive and eager to discuss the topic. We developed a new outline that she can use to write her next draft."
