Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had an exam last week, so we spent this session reviewing his new vocabulary which had to do with the city. We worked on some listening exercises and used most of our time to speak in Spanish and improve fluency."
"We practiced conversation and general understanding of spoken Spanish by going over questions about the assigned film. We also practiced vocabulary and reading comprehension by reading small paragraphs and answering multiple questions. The student showed that he understood the assigned film very well and did an excellent recap of the story and main characters."
"Today, I helped the student understand the preterite and imperfect tenses in Spanish. After going through the lessons in the book, we did about 10 practice questions so she could get the hang of knowing when to use which tense when. At first, she struggled a little bit, but with more practice she slowly got the hang of it. Then, we went over some 40 vocabulary words from the chapter she is currently studying, and made flashcards for all of them. We then went through all the words, and while she needed help with recalling a select few of them, she did fairly well in recalling most of them!"
"The student did his homework which consisted of reading two different passages from his textbook and then answering questions about the passages. Both of the texts had to do with art so he also reviewed his new art vocabulary. Additionally, we practiced imperfect and preterite verb tenses in Spanish, including when to use each one. Lastly, I read him a chapter out of the book "Pobre Ana." He said this book was very easy to understand so I will choose a more challenging book next time."
"Today the student and I went through a practice conjugation paragraph that I created for her. This practice was meant to test her on her knowledge on when to use the moods and tenses of verbs that we have so far covered. She did very well! She is getting much better with using the subjunctive. I will be providing her with another one of these paragraphs next time we meet so that she can continue to practice. With the remaining time, she and I discussed her upcoming paper on the Spanish economy and strategized how to best do research on this topic."
"We used a few materials which are a book the student used to study and also material from a Japanese news website for learning Japanese. We covered a lot of vocabulary and new grammar (more than, better, a little, less, etc.)."
