We reviewed the setups and deductions for several games that the student attempted on her own. She has the fundamentals down but needs to move slower and not worry about time. We'll continue to focus on this. Next time, we'll review the work she does and discuss selection games in more depth!

We spent the whole session focused on logic games. The student says he struggles the most with grouping games, so we worked on identifying strategies for various question types. It does take him a little while, but he tends to get the right answer, so our focus will eventually be on time management.

We went over a full logic games section and a full reading comprehension section. For logic games, we talked about substituting conditions, ruling out answer choices quickly based on deductions and distinguishing between what's flexible and what's fixed. For reading comprehension, we talked about keywords, keeping track of opinions and diagramming. When we went through the answer choices, we talked about reasons certain answer choices are wrong: they can be irrelevant, they can contradict the passage, or they don't respond to the question. For logical reasoning, I encouraged the use of diagrams and conditionals.

We went over LG and LR problems from the student's practice tests. He is trying to get from mid- 160s to 170. I hope this session was encouraging-- it seemed like there were a few concrete things that we worked on that will definitely come up on his test, like a strategy for replace the rule LG questions and dealing with "should" on LR.

Miramar, FL LSAT tutoring
We went over the practice test that I had sent the student in advance of our session. For the one-to-one correspondence games, he did each game himself and then we went over them together. I introduced a new game type (grouping), and we went through the game together so I could show him the most efficient and accurate diagramming techniques. We also went over strategies to cut time off of some of the questions later in the game by referring back to previous hypotheticals he had diagrammed. We spent the second half of the session going through a logical reasoning section together. He had completed the section before the session, so we went over each question and the logic behind the correct answer choices, as well as the flawed logic behind the incorrect answer choices.
