We went over numerous topics as a review for the student's upcoming test. The main topics we worked on were expected values and standard deviation of data sets, binomial and poison distributions, normal distributions, z tests, and confidence intervals. We worked from a practice test that his teacher had given to practice. We are going to meet again tomorrow morning so that he is fully prepared for his test. Overall, he seemed to pick up the material and has a stronger grasp on the topics we went over.

The student asked me to help on another practice homework assignment. This assignment focused on using the standard deviation, mean, and confidence intervals of a data-set to make conclusions about the data-set. This assignment was not as clear as the last, but we did manage to work through the problems. She and I discussed the theory behind the problems and seemed to be getting the hang of it by the end of the session. We discussed meeting back up once the next quiz is announced so that we can review the material before she takes the quiz. Hopefully that will help her internalize the concepts efficiently. She seems to really benefit from talking through the problems before trying to tackle them.

We were able to go back and forth between the area under the bell curve and the critical z-values where these areas were related. We discussed the margin of error and constructed confidence intervals. We also introduced the t-distribution and when it should be used.
