How can your Algebra tutor help you?

After learning to add, subtract, multiply, and divide real numbers, your student will move on to doing the same things with integers in algebra. This variety of math uses logic to break down and solve situations. It is used in geometry, chemistry, and much more. Algebra is a versatile tool that can help your student in many future topics, but only if they can have an understanding of the concepts early on. If your student is struggling, the educational directors at Varsity Tutors can help connect you with an algebra tutor in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Handling algebra requires students to have a firm understanding of the material that came before. If your student has always struggled with math, then it can be difficult for them to move forward at the same pace as their classmates. If you're hoping to help your student get back on track, you might consider trying algebra tutoring in Milwaukee. A personal tutor can work with your student to discover where their math weaknesses are. Once these are found, a lesson plan can be constructed of lessons that focus on strengthening these areas. A general math classroom has to move at a predetermined pace in order to cover all of the information the teacher is required to discuss in a year. With a tutor, however, your student's sessions can go at a pace that is appropriate for their learning ability. If a particular concept causes problems for your student, then the lesson plan can be set aside to make time for reiterating the confusing concept in a manner that the student can understand.

Milwaukee, WI Algebra tutoring
The student and I learned how to solve for x in a quadratic formula. We used different methods including graphing, completing the square, using the quadratic formula, or solving for the discriminant. The student had difficulty completing the square unless I would remind her of what step comes next. She also struggled to understand how to use the discriminant to learn more about the graph. Although she had some difficulty with these sections she worked very well tonight. She was willing to slow down her pace to correct errors and was very receptive to suggestions. I recommended that she practice more before her quiz but she understood concepts of the unit.

The student reworked problems on her end of course exam. We also covered the following topics: slope-intercept equations of lines, point-slope equations of lines, parallel lines, solving systems of equations in two variables, using the substitution method, and word problems involving systems of equations in two variables. She also worked additional problems from my algebra book.

The student and I worked through graphing quadratics. Hopefully he is reviewing them as the weekend goes on. He has an issue with retention of material after a certain point in time. If he keeps doing a bit each day, he'll be much better at tackling his tests.

Today I scribed for the student for the first hour. We are reviewing for the final next week in class doing sample problems. She is doing well but needs to work on some strategies. I then tutored her as we worked through the final exam review. We realized she learns and remembers best when she hears things so we are typing rules and processes so that she can listen to them at home and remember better.
