Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered scale factor, similar shapes, area, and volume. The student was not struggling much today. He was positive towards the material that was reviewed. I gave him a few tips on how to improve his accuracy. I did not leave him with extra practice. There were no grades to note progress. He is doing good in biology and geometry. He does need the sessions to keep up, but he should be fine for the year."
"Today we covered the concept of equations of straight lines and related word problems. We also worked on converting word problems to mathematical equations for solutions. He also showed me details of the material to be covered for the next class test. We went through many questions and I asked him to apply himself to do many of them. He was receptive to the explanations of the concepts and appeared to grasp the instruction."
"Today we covered the units that will be on the student's test on Tuesday, inductive reasoning and conjecture, conditional statements, and algebraic proofs. She needed help with some of the definitions of triangles and angles and their relationships to the problems. She kept a very positive attitude about the material, and we worked mostly on her confidence. She knows a lot of the material, but she second guesses herself at times. I encouraged her to write down the definitions that she was struggling with to reinforce them in her mind. I will be giving her some extra problems to go over before the test, as one of her concerns is not having enough practice before testing. A win from this session is that I now believe that she has a better understanding of all the definitions we discussed."
"Today we covered topics such as conditional statements, antecedents, consequences, biconditional statements, converse statements, counterexamples, and instances. The student understood the material very well. She asked good questions and was very attentive."
"Today we did a review of some geometry topics that will be important on the PSAT. We discussed using trig to find chord lengths, and how to determine arc and interior angle measurements. We also worked some with polygon area. He is good at problem solving, and should be fine as long as he talks himself through what he knows when confronted with questions that may seem complicated."
"Today we did test prep! We worked on lots of sequences, lots of inductive versus deductive reasoning, lots of conditional statements (and inverses, converses, and contrapositives), and finally, transversals and parallel lines, and corresponding, vertical, alternate interior, and alternate exterior angles."
