Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered linear equations. We also went over perpendicular and parallel lines using their slopes and a single point. We also went over finding x and y intercepts. Lastly, we found distances between two different lines using the distance formula."
"We covered logs and natural logs. Exclusively looking at properties and equations. Student needs practice with the properties, she is a bit shy about logs but was able to complete exercises in the book without much trouble. No extra practice or new grades or scores."
"We covered more Trigonometry this session. We specifically went over more of the unit circle, reference angles, and some application problems that involved two right triangles with a common side that needed to be solved for. We worked through a review worksheet, and I mostly let the student do all the work. She was able to do all of the problems with relative ease and only a few minor mistakes."
"We covered most of his homework on function transformations. He struggled a little bit with reflections over the y- and x-axis but demonstrated a better grasp of the concepts by the end of the session. I have purposefully been more hands-off when looking at his homework; specifically, I don't walk him to the answer like I did when we first started. The reason is I want him to show me that he understands the various concepts well enough to use them in a problem. Today was a very, very good day in that regard. He still needs to learn to actually read his textbook before jumping to the homework, but he did very, very well today with explaining his reasoning and getting the right answer on the first try."
"We covered nearly all of inverse functions. She was struggling most with the strategy of identifying layers of functions, so as to take the most efficient steps in the algebra exercises. Once the strategy of identifying layers of functions was taught, she able to more efficiently and properly solve for the variable she was looking for. Like always, her attitude was top notch dedicated towards her studies. I have seen significant growth in her efficiency towards these exercises, even in the short amount of time that we have been working together. We are still waiting for her last exam to come back to check her progress but are forging ahead for her to do excellent in the next one. I am very happy with her and her attitude towards her studies. I look forward to meeting with her again on new topic Friday."
"We covered optimization problems (a total of 8 of them) that were on a two paged sheet provided by her teacher as a review. She had difficulty understanding the sub-formula which was used to eliminate a variable in a two-variable scenario for optimization. She could have brought her TI Nspire to practice with it since it is allowed according to her to be used for the test. However, we made good use of a graphing application from the website, desmos.com. She made good notes of the steps to the solution of each problem. She did have an answer key from her class to also aid in checking her/our work. "
