Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student finished a writing assignment about his family. We worked through proofreading this assignment. I had him print it out and then I worked with him through each sentence to identify errors. This complemented a recent punctuation assignment we had done for his writing class a couple of sessions ago. I showed him a new strategy for working through these problems and he had a nice "aha!" moment."
"This evening, the students and I focused primarily on studying for their science finals. In particular, I worked to ensure that they would be ready for the essay/short-answer portion of the test. This section asks the students to make connections between the four sub-groups of information that they have learned about this term. Neither student was sure how to do this, but we worked through the material and they each have numerous examples to employ on their exam. Both girls were engaged and asked good questions. I feel good about their level of preparation in this subject at this time."
"Today the student brought in a homework assignment from Trigonometry which we both completed side-by-side and he had no trouble with going through. We discussed how he felt about his test he took this morning and seemed pretty confident, especially with the chunk of extra time he had left after completing his test."
"The student is preparing for her final exams. The focus of this session was her biology exam. She had some general ideas about what she needed to study. She pulled past tests and worksheets to review and found practice questions in the book. She feels very confident about this test and that she will end the course with an A."
"Today the student practiced the keys he's learned so far. We focused on accuracy as well as speed today. He can type at least 30 words per minute, which has been the goal for his lessons. He also practiced typing common English words."
"Today, I first helped the student remember how to burn a CD from a playlist. I also worked with him in understanding Microsoft Publisher more in-depth, as this will be useful to his business needs and the student has expressed interest in this. I explained how to create objects/shapes, how to create shape fill and choose an outline color, how to make text boxes and also how to insert images, including one which they had just scanned using the student's scanner. As using objects in a document is a new concept for him, some repetition will likely be needed, but he is very quickly capturing the general ideas. For the next session or so, I will help the student by letting him replicate the things I have demonstrated on this program, and will review with him how to use his scanner."
