Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on GFC of polynomials and also on a-b working with cubed variables and factoring them. He had some challenges at first, but was doing much better at the end of our session. I will be bringing practice problems of these concepts to our next session."
"At the tutoring session yesterday we covered multiplication. We read a book that talked about different ways to think about multiplication and how to solve a multiplication problem. While we did this I had the student look at a number line and find patterns of her multiplication problems. We talked about even and odd numbers and what patterns we saw with her timeline. Finally I showed her a trick on how to do her 9's by using her fingers. She caught onto the tricks that I showed her very quickly. She is really good with patterns and when prompted, can dig deeper into numbers. I left the number line with her so she can use it for her homework. Overall, a very productive and good session."
"Today was my first session with the student. We covered concepts in pre-algebra, particularly some basic statistics concepts, like mean, median, mode, range, bias, random sampling, dot plots, and box-and-whisker plots. She understands the basic concepts well, and she seems responsive to discussing the concepts when being applied to real-world situations. She seems open to different ways of approaching and understanding the concepts."
"We went through some of the tests for determining if a series or sequence diverges or converges as well as looking at the specific types of series that we could actually solve for the value that they converge to. We also reviewed Taylor series and polynomials for both the general forms and the specific case of the Maclaurin series centered at zero. We looked at finding the Lagrange Error bounds for specific Taylor polynomials. Lastly we started looking at some general practice exam problems covering limits, integrals, derivatives, and working in polar coordinates. He is doing well writing out the terms of a Taylor polynomial and telling the difference between the polynomial and the series. We will continue to go through finding the Lagrange Error Bounds and the radius of convergence in future sessions to help him become more confident working through possible free-response questions relating to series."
"We reviewed topics that the student was confused by (fractions, exponents, logs, sequences/series, and functions). He is able to understand the material once basic concepts are clarified. I helped him understand where certain properties in math come from instead of just stating them. He has an upcoming exam on old material and needs tutoring for the assessment exam and SAT."
"The student and I went over his Algebra 2 homework. We worked on figuring out arithmetic and geometric sequences."
