Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today I was helping the student prepare for her quiz tomorrow by going briefly over the concepts she had learned before break as a refresher and focusing on any concepts that she seemed to struggle with. Of everything we went over the only struggles she had were with cancelation and percent problems. In our next session if we have time I intend to have her solve several more of these types of problems in order to remind her of how to do them and hopefully stick it in her brain with repetition."
"We went over a lot of his old tests and quizzes. His errors were predominantly minor computational errors resulting from not canceling a negative or not factoring properly. We did review taking the derivative of a function using the chain rule, as well as the difference between continuous and differentiable."
"We covered the graphing of parabolas, how to find the focus and directrix of parabolas both on a graph and through equations, and how to graph parabolas using the vertex, focus, and directrix. Next we did a few problems covering the distance formula, and we then moved to circles. We covered how to find the equation of a circle, how to find the center and radius of a circle given an equation, and how to graph circles. Finally, we went over how to find the perpendicular bisector of a line from two points of an original line, by finding the negative inverse slope and using the midpoint of the original line to find the y-intercept and whole equation of the second line."
"The student and I reviewed various topics for her Algebra quiz, including graphing, completing the square and the quadratic formula."
"The student and I covered chapters 7 and 8 of geometry. She has a final exam coming up and would like to prepare for it together. We went over her study guide sample questions and reinforced concepts by using her geometry book as well. We wrote equations she needed to memorize, and I suggested she begin her own study guide sheet to write down all concepts she must familiar herself with. She did very well and recalled many concepts she had learned in the past months. We will continue preparing for her final exam with another session next week."
"We went over conversions with metric and customary units. The student seems to understand the concepts, and he did very well. I answered his questions that helped him with his work."
