Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had homework in both reading and math. Reading- I had her read the first required two stories from her Journeys Reader, and write her spelling words two times. She did very well on both. Math- I went over the sums of 4, 5, 6, and 8 with her. I dictated the problems, and she wrote them and the answers on my dry board. Afterwards, I asked her the answers again to be sure she remembered them, and she did."
"The student had some homework that covered long division. The teacher is having her complete the long division problems in a slightly different way than last year, so we worked through the problems and solved several more like them. We also looked at measuring capacity using traditional units."
"The student has an enormous amount of homework this week! 25 spelling words (all review words), a Rosary project, a large science assignment, and math using new common core methodology. The teacher sent home a whole packet training parents how to help or teach the math. Since it was giving her some trouble, we spent the majority of our time on math this hour. Following that, we reviewed her Rosary project by reading the assignment (about 1/2 page of requirements) and designing her Rosary to meet those requirements. She was tired today, but was a trooper! She worked really hard."
"The student has been doing well in school, but did need a review of subtraction with regrouping when there are multiple zeroes. We focused on multiplication tonight, but moved into 3x1 multiplication. This continues his review of the facts, but prepares him for the upcoming chapter on multiplication. "
"The student is doing well with multiplication. She scored a high grade on her last quiz, and is making extremely good progress. We reviewed homework problems that she missed and had questions about. We reviewed the concepts of long division and finding multiples. She needed some extra help with finding common multiples of the longer numbers, so we went over that in detail. Her homework page lists some of the basic rules for finding multiples. I had her study them and do some extra practice problems."
"The student is showing incredible progress! She did an excellent job reading today, and sounding out words she did not know. In math, she worked on both addition and subtraction, and did very well. She was very focused and enthused with her work, and did an excellent job this session!"
