Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we worked on a section involving quadrilaterals. I am noticing that the student is becoming more confident with respect to solving questions on his own. I want to encourage this but also make sure he has high standards and does not make mistakes whenever possible."
"Today, we worked on trigonometric identities, getting more practice with finding side lengths using sine, cosine, and tangent. We also learned about converting degrees into radians and vice versa. Then in Biology, we practiced using the Hardy-Weinberg equation to predict allele, genotype, and phenotype frequencies in a population."
"Today's concepts were trigonometry of right triangles and useful calculator techniques. There we no struggles today. The student was receptive of all information given and was really surprised at what the calculator would do. We will dive into more calculator uses and expound on trig next session. Excellent job overall."
"Today's problems included concepts from transformations, algebraic equations, Venn diagrams, and probability."
"Today's session focus was on the following topics: solving literal equations for the unknown variable, International System of Measurements, and dimensional analysis. The student had a good grasp of the material. He felt very comfortable working out problems, especially after he was presented with an example first. He made minor mistakes at times (i.e. leaving off units, adding too many zeroes during conversions, or simple arithmetic errors). However, he did a good job of fixing his mistakes. Most of the material seemed like review for him. Additionally, he was presented with more complex problems to demonstrate his understanding of the material. His assignment was to finish the packet of material we covered this week."
"Today's session was great. We were able to review a bit of rules of triangles, and we worked on a proof that had triangles and vertical angles. We started to look at triangles that overlapped and we worked on identifying triangles that look similar to each other. She is very good at seeing overlapping figures, which will help her tremendously in her geometry course. We also had time to introduce quadrilaterals. She read a few paragraphs and then repeated the information to me. We introduced parallelograms, learning its definition and corollaries. We also talked about strategies that work for her. She pointed out that the best way she learns is by visualizing things and by listening. I pointed out that she also did very well with repeating information she had read to herself. Overall, today's lesson was great."
