Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We practiced problems focusing on the incorporation of friction. We reviewed concept questions as well as questions from our previous session"
"We went over a quiz the student had last week, and started going over absolute configuration, enantiomers, and other isomerisms."
"Today we covered energy problems, and used energy to find the velocity using conservation of energy and work."
"Today's session focused on finishing the questions on the recitation packet. We discussed the regulation of glycogen synthase versus glycogen phosphorylase, analyzed the effects of deficiencies of those two enzymes, calculated ATP yield from saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids, and compared glycogenolytic, glycolytic, lipolytic, and citric acid cycle enzyme Vmax to determine pathway usage of two species of birds. The student still had a little trouble remembering to include the NADH and FADH2 from beta oxidation in his ATP yield calculations, but he was much more confident in his results compared to the last session."
"Today's session focused on quantum theory and the electromagnetic spectrum. We worked examples using wavelength, frequency, and energy. This was the last session prior to the student's final exam."
"Today's session was devoted to the next chapter on chemical reactions and stoichiometry, covering Avogadro's number, the mole, molar mass, percent composition, determination of empirical and molecular formulas, balancing chemical equations, using chemical equations to calculate amounts of reactants and products, limiting reagents, theoretical yield, and percent yield. The student quickly grasped all of this material and was able to work through most problems independently with some prompting from me. He will start working through approximately 40 homework problems based on the most recent two chapters. We will discuss any problems that he finds challenging next time."
