Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began this session by working on fractions, of which the student already has a fair understanding. We then read from his chapter book and discussed characters (who are they, how would you describe them, how do they feel about what's going on) and setting (what does the book tell us is there, what do we imagine, how would we feel about a place like this)."
"Todays session mainly focused on reading fluently and making connections. Reading fluently incorporates three areas of rate, accuracy and expression. In the beginning, we talked and focused on self-monitoring your reading. This means noticing when a mistake or error has been made and independently going back and correcting that error. All in all, the student did very well with the decoding aspect. We still need to work on reading with more expression. She was able to make a connection with the higher level text that we read, but needed prompting in order to be successful. We will continue to work on reading fluently and making connections during our next session. In the meantime, I left some books for the student to practice reading."
"We continued to practice control of the writing implement, pressing on the paper. We practiced with the stencils and re-read a short book. Finally, we worked on letter recognition and sounds."
"He continued to work on his reading focusing again on the -ee and -ea word families. He also worked on identifying his sight words. He has increased his sight word knowledge, but struggles identifying about 15 words from the pre-kindergarten Dolch list. We will also be working on the -ow, ay, ai, word families. I will also work on distinguishing between d and b."
"He did well reading a Star Wars book and answering comprehension questions. Then, we worked on dividing words into syllables. He had trouble with it at first but eventually caught on. We practiced quite a bit on this."
"He finished the reading assessment SSAT 2. He made 100%. He will finish up the verbal for homework and continue to work on his writing. He worked on LLR1 assessment. She will finish working on her writing and do another reading for homework."
