Session Summaries by German Tutors

Meriden, CT German tutoring
We had a mini-quiz today over the topics we went over last week. The student did very well. He did have a few vocabulary mistakes in the sentence writing; however, he is starting to write more sentences in Japanese only. He has really progressed and seems to be catching on topics very quickly. We went over two new particles today, as well as the past polite form of adjectives. We will be wrapping up first semester this Thursday, reviewing on Tuesday and testing on Thursday.

We spent the first 15 or 20 minutes going over homework. (There was a lot, and although it was almost all perfect, there were one or two places where I clarified a point and then she practiced it.) The next 45 minutes or so we just reviewed making and answering questions using a bingo format. The last half hour we worked on "shi ni iku" (going someplace to do something). The student made all the mental leaps just like always, came up with correct ways to say things, grasped the concept with no difficulty and continued her run as the fastest learner ever. Homework will be to use pictures as prompts to write sentences using several of the forms she's learned in the past weeks.

We spent the first half of the session reviewing the letters the student has trouble remembering; we used flashcards to practice them. Then, we reviewed hiragana lines N, H, and M. During the second half of the session, we continued to work on the state-of-being grammar (i.e. the "to be" verb). We reviewed the positive and negative present tense conjugations. Then, I introduced the positive past tense conjugation and examples. Next session, I will introduce the negative past tense conjugation. As discussed in the session and by email, the student would benefit by making flashcards at home to review letters and vocabulary.
