Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"She and I reviewed the relationship between decimals and fractions by modeling and using the place value chart. We also touched upon place value, periods, the value of a digit in a number, expanded form, and rounding numbers to an underlined place. We reviewed a math test that she had a hard time on, going over each individual problem in depth. I think she experiences a lot of nervousness during testing. Overall, she worked hard and stayed on target."
"She and I went over her homework and correct any mistakes she may have had. She did really well with simplifying and solving algebraic equations but needs to brush up on number properties, specifically operations with positive and negative numbers. I gave her a few handouts to work on over vacation, as well as a study tool. We plan to follow up early next week."
"She and I worked on her math homework. She adds her math facts well and remembers to carry accurately. We also worked on associative and communitive properties and went over how these work for addition and multiplication but not for subtraction and division. At the end of the session, she and I also worked on rounding. Great job today!"
"She did fantastic! I checked her reading homework for tonight and had her redo it with my help. She needed to write her answers in complete sentences and they were not, so I helped her use the questions to begin her sentences. She did really well. We also worked on math. There's a great website to practice math skills at her level. I left the information on her homework folder to play on her own. I can actually assign her work through this website!"
"She did very well on her Unit 1 Volume test. She earned an 89% for progress check and an 85% for an open response. She is doing much better with her work. Today, we worked on multiplying with powers of 10. She is building her confidence and being successful. She definitely knows her math facts much better."
"She got a 100% on her math test today. Not only that, but her mother told me that her teacher said she was the first one to finish her test. She sat and waited for the rest of the students to finish theirs! Since she still had one math homework sheet uncompleted, I helped her finish that. Also, I had a sheet of computation problems, containing both addition and subtraction for her to work on. She did some of the addition, and mostly correctly. She got a 90% on her spelling test. The only mistake she made in one word was to transpose two letters in many. But, she was also given a dictation with the spelling. She had several mistakes in it. So, I then gave her two dictations of my own. She made the same mistakes. So, I showed her how to correct them, e.g. capital letter at the beginning of a sentence, period at the end, etc."
