The student and I went over a worksheet about biotic and abiotic factors in different environments. He seemed to understand this very, very well and the worksheet took him hardly any time at all. He then completed the online lab. We will review the carbon cycle, and with a little more practice he should be able to understand it.

We went over the excretory system, and discussed the difference between the excretory and digestive systems. We went over the organs of the excretory system and the function of each, and then we defined metabolism and metabolic wastes. We discussed cellular respiration and which waste products are produced, and also went into detail about the structure of the kidney and its functional unit, the nephron. We discussed what is filtered out of the blood and what is returned to it, and talked about the role of the kidneys in maintaining homeostasis and the blood's composition. We went over the structure of the skin and the lungs and how they remove metabolic wastes, and also discussed malfunctions of the excretory system.

I met with the student to go over some content for her upcoming test. She had missed some days and wanted to make sure that she understood the differences between photosynthesis and cellular respiration. The first chapter was cellular respiration, so I explained how it can be viewed as a multiple step system that eukaryotes and prokaryotes approach differently. She had some issues with the later stages and understanding the Citric Acid cycle, but she asked a lot of questions during the session which helped her understanding. The next chapter covered photosynthesis, which I broke down into the light reactions and the dark reactions. She understood this much better, so I tried to show the similarities and differences between the two to deepen her understanding. She is more of a visual learner, so I encouraged her to go over these processes by the models presented in the book as they can help to visualize the process and steps much better.
