Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we covered exercises on the law of sines and law of cosines for solving triangles. The student had a better handle on the law of sines than she did in our last session, and she was more engaged in this session. We went over the different cases for using the law of sines or the law of cosines, namely which one to use based on given information. We also went over some word problems involving these concepts."
"The student and I completed his math homework. He was having a bit of trouble setting up the conversion from the absolute value into two equations and kept skipping certain steps, which in some cases caused him to get the wrong answers. We ended up going through every problem step by step, in order to get him to be able to logically write every step in order to get the correct answer. For chemistry, we also went over ionization energy, electron affinity, and atomic radius trends in the periodic table. We also went over the effective nuclear force, which he has had trouble with. I went into it with as much detail as possible with him, but he had some trouble when attempting to think about the topics and explaining some of the trends. We worked through many of the explanations, but be was still a bit shaky on a few. We will continue going over this material on Thursday."
"The student and I continued to work on her assignment on delta math. We covered topics, including linear regression, quadratic regression, operations with complex numbers, simplifying radicals, and some synthetic division. All of this extra practice helps her with refining her math skills."
"The student and I continued working on her review for the final this week. We worked with matrices, rational functions, and graphing. The student was well prepared, and showed good effort. Her finals schedule was taking its toll and she had forgotten some basic concepts, but picked up as we worked. We completed the review and she seemed much more confident about the test. She is a good student and it was a pleasure to work with her."
"The student and I covered problems from her review sheet that included simplifying expressions, factoring, and graphing. She needed help graphing circles, so I made a point to come up with a simpler explanation for the next lesson. She has a good attitude toward learning the material."
"The student and I covered rules of derivatives: addition and subtraction rule, power rule and quotient rule. We also solved for variables that would guarantee the differentiability of piecewise functions."
