Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We took a final look together at her final essay and went over some general grammar questions and concerns, and also did a kind of review of things she found the most confusing/helpful/interesting/challenging during the past couple of months. The student did some significant edits on her essay, and it's almost complete -- I just spotted some typos and pointed out some additional pitfalls to be aware of. We talked about final connections between ideas to insert to tighten up the essay and make it more cohesive and comprehensive. She did a really great job editing the narrative portion of the essay, and we tightened that up even more. I think she'll get a good grade on it."
"The student had two writing assignments for school: a state history essay and an English narration essay. We sketched out a full outline of the history essay and a brief outline of the English essay."
"The student and I worked on a paper for her sociology class on health care and social control using multiple sources."
"The student and I continued on our quest to get caught up and complete all remaining tasks for his sign language course. During our time together, we did manage to get a couple videos shot and uploaded; we were also able to narrow down a definitive list of signs to learn for the final video assignments of the class."
"The student and I continued our discussion on revising and editing. We're developing a checklist for editing and revising your writing and a suggestion to go with each to improve that checkpoint if it's missing or weak in your writing."
"The student and I continued our reading of "The Secret Life of Bees," stopping to discuss major themes and difficult passages. I'm impressed with the student's improvement in his summary writing, as he now has a much better idea of how to summarize the plot points and the major themes. His reading has also improved since we started, and as he familiarizes himself with reading and word pronunciation, I've seen a decline in pauses and slip-ups when he reads. He will go back to school on Monday, so we will meet again mid-week to review what more he's read and maybe work on writing longer essay-typed responses to major themes of the book."
