Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we went over factoring polynomials and finding the zeroes of polynomial functions. The student had a test this week before Easter break and wanted some extra practice with these concepts. We spent most of our time working with 3rd and 4th degree polynomials and using synthetic division to find their factors. I also spent a few minutes filling in a few gaps in his understanding of zeroes of a polynomial function. He seemed (and claimed) to be much more comfortable with this material at the end of the session."
"Today we worked on using software to calculate correlations. We went over what negative and positive correlations are and demonstrated how they look on a scatter plot. One- and two-tailed tests and probability values were other topics we went over."
"I had a great first session with the student! We covered trigonometry concepts, specifically identifying the amplitude, period, phase shift, and vertical shift of various graphs, and writing out equations of graphs. We began the session by reviewing a few concepts associated with the subject we were discussing, but spent the majority of our session reviewing practice problems. She progressed very quickly throughout our meeting and seemed very confident with the material by the end. She is a very motivated and hard-working student."
"We covered how to condense and expand logarithms and basic French restaurant vocabulary. She was confident. With French, there were just some minor pronunciation issues. We will continue to work on this in future sessions."
"The student was preparing for a test over area of figures. She does not have to memorize the formulas. I encouraged her to write out the formula next to the problem she is working and then plug in the values from there. She also had some test corrections that we worked on. In talking with her, it seems she may have some testing anxiety issues as well. Her test corrections were over percents. She did not use my of trick on her test but when I prompted her to use it on the corrections she was able to set up and work the problems properly. Now if she could just remember to use my tricks while she's taking her test! I really hope she writes out the formulas on her test it helps her to do it right."
"Yesterday the student continued working on addition and subtraction of polynomials. He is solving problems faster and faster and understands the concepts well. He scored 9/10 on his last Mastery test."
