Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we worked on the topic of relative extrema of functions and using derivatives to make an accurate sketch of the function. We discussed maxima and minima and the procedure to use the first derivative to determine where these points occur."
"We did some practice SAT math questions in preparation for the student's PSAT next week. She will do a practice test this weekend, and will contact me if she wants to move next week's session forward, if she has any questions she wants answered before she takes the test."
"We discussed the format of his class and how the tests and quizzes are scheduled. He took a quiz just recently but hasn't gotten it back yet. He was having a hard time understanding related rate problems, so I did one as an example then had him work through the others. Once we went over it he felt much more comfortable. We talked about concepts they might go over in the near future but his teacher doesn't follow a set schedule so it's hard to preview material."
"We finished inverse trig functions this time. She gets used to the right triangle when solving the arc type functions. She needs more memorized on the domain, range, and properties of trig functions for the further application."
"We finished the homework assignment and had some fun dealing with derivatives and continuity. She did well on the derivatives. I had noticed in previous sessions that she was having difficulty with definitions, so I specifically took the time to cover the necessary ones. We will meet next week."
"We finished the unit exam and began the next unit on applications of derivatives. We briefly discussed how first and second derivatives are related to position/velocity/acceleration, and I gave a short explanation about Mean Value Theorem and Rolle's Theorem. The student will try to self-study those topics before our next session."
