"The student and I went over two sections of Algebra 2 that will be on her quiz tomorrow. We covered how to find the equation of a parabola when given the directrix and the focus. We also discussed and practiced how to find the equation when only given either the directrix or the focus AND the vertex by using the fact that the directrix and focus are equidistant to the vertex. The second section was about graphing a parabola using all the forms of the equation including standard, vertex and x-intercept form. The student and I practiced each of these, made notecards about the system to follow when graphing and finding the important points on the graph, and I also left her with one of each type of problem to practice for her quiz tomorrow."
"The student and I went over what she had learned in class about degrees of polynomials, monomials, and polynomial long division. She was missing a few definitions (such as how to identify a monomial) but otherwise seemed confident in the concepts, so we went over her homework for the next class to ensure she understood polynomial division."
"The student and I went over what she had written for her writing problem, and I helped her to articulate how she solved the problem. She has some direction now and will work to complete it before we meet tomorrow. Then, we discussed two sections in her new chapter (18) and did the appropriate problems in the text."
"The student and I went through a previous year's AP Calculus AB exam. She needs to focus on the basics when it comes to remembering the definitions of derivatives and integrals. Once the definitions are solid in her mind, the application of the principles is relatively simple. This is what we have been working on these past few sessions."
"The student and I went through all of the questions his teacher suggested he study for the test. He did well on the material and definitely mastered the substitution method and solving matrices with a graphing calculator. He may need more practice solving word problems. He said he may see his teacher before the test and might want to schedule another tutoring session in the morning."
"The student and I went through her final exam review packet for our last meeting together studying College Algebra. Our work included review of simplifying multi-variable algebraic expressions with exponents, percent change, linear equations in standard, point-slope, and slope-intercept forms along with the properties of parallel and perpendicular lines and generating linear equations from given characteristics (e.g., passing through certain points with given slope restrictions). We spent some time calculating what she would need to score on the final to earn each letter grade given her current point total for the semester. I believe she felt quite confident that her goal would be realized for this course!"
