Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the definition of elements, atoms, ions, electrons, and protons. We also went over the concepts of valence electrons, electron dot structure, periodic table, ionic compound, and ionic bond. The student was not comfortable at first, but at the end, he seemed to understand the concepts."
"We went over the different equations used to represent line graphs. We covered slope-intercept form in our previous session. Today, we went over slope-point form. Towards the end of our session, he was able to complete the material from last night's session and began to understand the new material just a bit better. I hope that during our next session we'll be able to understand the material."
"We went over the remaining questions that the student had about her Math 9 homework due yesterday. We also went over her homework due next Monday, which involved solving equations with multiple variables and fractions. She did well in this area, but she had some trouble isolating variables that were in the denominator. We will keep working on that. With the extra time, we made flashcards for squares and cubes, and I showed her how to go through them."
"We went over the student's algebra homework on radical equations and rationalizing denominators. She expressed confusion over rationalizing denominators, but I showed her how she'd done it before with numbers instead of variables. As we went through the problems, she was able to do them. I think she'll be able to do well on the quiz tomorrow."
"We went over the student's Astronomy work, which covered the outer planets--Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. We also went over some of the major moons of Jupiter and Saturn. Her homework asked her to compare the atmospheres, interiors, and temperatures of the gas giants (for example, using a temperature/altitude graph) as well as the surface geologies of Io, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, and Titan."
"We went over the student's exponential functions packet. This mostly covered interest equations, but it also included depreciation of a car and ice melting. We investigated what each part of the interest equation meant."
