Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked on solving quadratics by factoring, and then getting the solutions from the factors. We also talked about how this method could be helpful in graphing a quadratic function. She caught on to the problems quickly and made connections to the different sign changes."
"The student worked on his assigned homework on logarithms and exponential functions. We started the session by computing and contrasting the ending balance of an amount of money invested for a period of time at simple vs. compound interest and then moved on to solving logarithmic equations. We also explored the rules of logs by combining and expanding log expressions and translating parent log graphs. When we realized he wouldn't be able to complete all his homework during the session, we discussed a few problems of each remaining type, so that he could be confident to complete the assignment."
"The student and I reviewed to completion the entirety of her algebra quarterly review. She is incredibly smart and good with calculations."
"Today we further covered using FOIL, factoring roots, simplifying radicals, distributing exponents, and isolating variables. I think the student is capable."
"We covered quadratic equations even more in depth, including how to graph them, how to factor them, and how to algebraically find the x-intercepts and line of symmetry and vertices. Both girls are very bright, but quadratic equations are complicated, new, and very important as a foundational tool for the rest of algebra and more advanced math. Both girls are having a hard time understanding why certain operations and numerical manipulations are allowed and why others are not. Both have said it's very helpful to have me explain things in greater depth, which is very nice of them and good to hear."
"The student continues to study exponents in school. She did well with her homework today, immediately identifying how to work with fractional exponents. We did quite a bit of extra work on simplification and worked on using the calculator to solve problems."
