Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today I sat down with the student and his father to discuss the obstacles that they wanted to address with our sessions and the goals that they wanted to see accomplished. They are most concerned with the student's disorganization, procrastination, grades, and getting assignments turned in. The goals for our sessions are to help him improve his overall organization, cement his study habits, and making sure he does not get any C's. He and I then discussed what classes he's taking, what the workload is like, and which ones he enjoys the most. We then worked on his Spanish homework and I helped him dissect the more complicated questions so that he could understand them easier. To finish we went over when he was going to start and finish his assignments for the week."
"The student and I had a pretty good session today. We got through a preliminary run-through of the Catholicism quiz (which I have now split up for him) and a review of his math section. He did well in both of these. However, he is still doing much better for even just a few months ago, so I hope he continues to improve!"
"We were able to discuss upcoming homework assignments and delineate a schedule for the evening. That homework included reading, finalizing a rough draft, and responding to questions on a math assignment. The student projected this to take between an hour and fifteen minutes to an hour and thirty minutes. We concluded with a reminder that we would be meeting on Friday for collaborative and evaluative goal setting for the reminder of our scheduled sessions."
"For today's class, we revised the essay from last week and then went on to do math homework. The problems dealt with scale factors, which the student understood well, especially converting between the two similar figures that he was given."
"The student has finished his standardized tests and he did better than the teacher thought he would!! Congratulations! Today the student came to the session with amazing critical reading skills. He read a story in the news and was able to correlate it back to the novel we studied. His comparison was amazing. We began the session with math. I am really impressed with how his basic mathematics have increased. He no longer needs to rely on a calculator. Additionally, I was quite impressed with how he is doing with positive and negative integers. Today we also studied a short story and he did really well with the historical context, realizing that Sputnik was launched before we landed on the moon. I chose this story since he had a little trouble with the imagery in the last session."
"The student and I had a very productive session today, we focused exclusively on ERB essay writing for his upcoming tests. He has a good grip of the concepts of good writing, and picks up everything I give him very quickly. Framing his opinion essays as arguments will really help him with this type of writing."
