Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed topics from the previous session, which dealt with using FOIL, reverse factoring, and quadratic/linear equations. The main focus of this week's topic was understanding and applying concepts of statistics (normal distribution, standard deviation, interpreting data sets). The student is following along well and is engaged during sessions."
"The student and I covered graphing quadratic equations (the topic of her previous exam), and the material on her cumulative review. She needed help with factoring the quadratic trinomials in order to find the roots of the graphs, so we worked on that until she had it down. She was pretty diligent today. For our final session, I made a note to summarize all of the study skills I've recommended up to this point: slow down, leave lots of room, check your work, practice the material, and believe in yourself on the day of the test. I instructed her to complete the remaining exams her teacher gave to her as practice."
"I introduced material regarding independent and dependent variables as well as basic algebra concepts."
"The student spent time catching up on backed up homework assignments and I made sure she understood her current homework assignment on solving for variables in one-step addition and subtraction equations. She is still working on some of the fundamentals, but is getting more fluent with these with each session."
"We looked at word problems which had two variables in two situational equations. The equation sets were either solved by the substitution, addition, or subtraction method. The student did well with the general topic, although some difficult concept questions needed further explanation."
"The student had an upcoming test in his biology course, so we spent most of the session reviewing for that using a study guide provided by his teacher. This unit covered various concepts in ecology, specifically food chains and the distribution of energy in an ecosystem. He seemed very comfortable with the material, and only needed to brush up on some vocab. We also spent a little bit of time going over his most recent quizzes from geometry. He did very well on both, only getting one problem incorrect on each of them! We re-did those problems on a separate piece of paper so that when he goes back to study for the test, he can review these notes."
