Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has been preparing for his final by working on the review. So far, we have gone over the beginning portion of the review. He worked on problems that consisted of factoring, finding the vertex, domains, and transformations. He has vastly improved is these areas because of the extra practice he has done. We are very confident that he will pass his final with an excellent grade."
"The student has been struggling with the current chapter in class that covers combinatorics and sequences (and later, series). She was struggling to understand the difference between permutations and combinations, so we reviewed the chapter, worked on problems, and talked about the method of solution. Then, we went over a worksheet that was completed in class. We also started on her homework covering sequences. She was more confident by the end of the session, and we scheduled an additional session on Friday to continue working on the chapter topics."
"The student has been studying decimals--rounding, naming, adding, subtracting, and multiplying, including word problems and modeling with charts and drawings. We went over corrections from her last test. She was confused about adding and subtracting decimals by "benchmarking." I was able to explain it to her. She gets it now!"
"The student has been working on a unit involving quadratic equations. He has the quadratic formula memorized, and needed a little help with factoring. I showed him a quick visual method for factoring trinomials that will help him get them faster. We also covered completing the square and square root property as ways to solve specific types of quadratic equations."
"The student has begun working on binomial settings and probabilities. It was really helpful that he had a packet of questions to work from, and we were able to get through most of them today. He was in command of the material, and I encouraged him to get even more confident tonight before his teacher introduces geometric settings tomorrow in class."
"The student has difficulty with her multiplication facts, which are causing her difficulty in her math curriculum. She also tries to take on the entire math problem in one step rather than break it down into manageable chunks. I showed her some strategies on how to improve her ability to do long multiplication so she does not have to remember all the steps involved."
