MCAT Tutoring review by Max in Duval County, FL
The student and I ran through math and reading work. He knows most of the material, but he sometimes makes minor mistakes. He needs to approach questions methodically and consistently in order to not make mistakes like the ones he made. We also worked on the essay and focused on the best method for stating and sharing his ideas and opinions.

We worked on some biochem today. We did the questions to chapters 6-9 in the prep book (i.e., biochemistry basics, amino acids and proteins, carbohydrates and carbohydrate metabolism, and lipids). Topics included M-M kinetics (competitive and noncompetitive and uncompetitive and mixed inhibition), Gibbs free energy, spontaneity, activation energy, glycolysis, Krebs cycle, electron transport chain, etc.

MCAT Tutoring review by Ryan in Duval County, FL
The student and I began by working through a practice verbal reasoning section. The section was quite difficult, and she struggled with some of the harder vocabulary questions and the difficult reading passages. We went over some of the vocabulary, and I also broke down the questions so she could better understand the correct answer. We then progressed to a number of practice sentence equivalence questions. She tended to do very well on these sets which was encouraging. Finally, we finished by going over some practice quantitative reasoning questions. She knew how to answer most of these questions, and I helped her by illustrating the solution to a few of the problems she did not know how to solve.

MCAT Tutoring review by Paul in Duval County, FL
The student and I spent the entire session reviewing fundamental physics concepts in kinematics and mechanics. We began by walking through the Big Five equations, discussing when to use to each of them, and then practiced this with a few targeted problems. After this we dove into the fundamentals of mechanics, describing force diagrams and net force equations. We then worked several problems together on covering friction and pulleys. It was good that we were able to take our time to work through these topics, as a solid foundation in the skills of setting up problems and manipulating equations is essential for doing well on physics questions. Unfortunately we were not able to get through much material, so she will have to continue working hard in her own time to further practice these basics as well as more advanced topics.

MCAT Tutoring review by Elana in Duval County, FL
The student and I started by going over a problem set that he completed, aiming to review the questions that he got wrong. After this we focused on problem-solving questions because he was performing better on the quant comp problems, and we went over strategies for knowing when to plug-in versus knowing when to solve an equation. He is going to make himself a study schedule as he prepares for the rest of the test by himself, and I told him he can email me if he has any questions!

We reviewed diagnostic stats and worked through reasoning examples in terms of simplest explanations. I assigned reading comprehension audio series and assignment practice timed readings with active reading elements of main purpose and logical assessment predictors. Also, I assigned subject tests in chem/physics to engage weak area.
