Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We started today's session reviewing the student's math homework. I then helped him review for his social studies test on China. We went over his spelling words and also worked on editing a paragraph. The last part of our session was spent on practicing for the ELA."
"The student continued working on her book, and we read the parts together that she wanted to go over. She then did a vocabulary exercise and read some magazine articles."
"The student and I worked on phonetically learning the sight words for pre-kindergarten. We used a puzzle set to learn opposite words (Short/Tall, etc.) He also picked four sets of the puzzle cards and wrote out each word. We read both a Star Wars book and the H Sound Box book. He had difficulty sounding out and remembering the words "hog" and "hen." He said they were hard. We will work on that in future sessions. During our practice session of writing letters, he still struggles with writing "a," "e," "c" and "s" in the correct direction - very common at his age. He also forgets how to distinguish between "b" and "d" - also very common."
"The student is making great progress. He is discovering ways to build his endurance for reading. His lexile is 815, which is great for a new 4th grader."
"The student is making great strides in his reading skills! He reads slowly, but he is making great progress in self-correction. The big transition will be when he returns to school. He is reading to his mom and dad to improve his fluency and he is using apps on his tablet to improve his vocabulary."
"The student is making progress on her assignment. She is at the revision stage now. She needs to make the corrections I've already given her on her own so that we can use our last session before school starts most effectively. I think this new set of books is at the right level for her--a little challenging but not too challenging. It's wonderful to work with her; she is very sweet and well-behaved."
