Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The session with the student mostly consisted of helping her to complete her civics assignments. We managed to get it all complete. Great session."
"The student and I are continuing working on new vowel sounds and silent e's. In addition to his sight words, we worked on a reading comprehension sheet that introduced "oo" words like took, wood, good, cook, etc. He is steadily improving, and his vocabulary is clearly growing. I had him work on a color by word today in addition to our normal activities, and this seemed to alleviate some of the extra energy and help him to focus better on our other tasks. It was a great session!"
"The student and I began by completing the short reading and grammar exercises in her summer worksheets. We then worked on 12 new vocabulary words from context clues. We spent the majority of the session reviewing the chapters that she had already annotated in order to accurately fill out her character identification chart. We then used the information she had found to complete the first of three parts of her summer reading project. She will complete the remaining two next week. I also assigned her three more articles and one printed short story to complete for Monday."
"The student and I began by going over strategies for the vocabulary section on the SAT. We then did a few practice problems. We then moved on to beginning to plan an essay based off of one of two essays. We read portions of the essays and discussed a general plan for his writing."
"The student and I began by re-reading the two library books she checked out last week. Then, we studied cursive writing for about 10 minutes. She likes it when I circle my favorite letters in her writing. Finally, we read another couple of chapters in "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." She finds that book fascinating. It had a chapter on whaling, and we discussed the history of the whaling industry from the 1860s until the present. Verne's Captain Nemo is quite progressive in his thoughts on whales, calling the whaling industry cruel and unnecessary, but he kind of ruins it after that by destroying a whole pod of whales with his submarine. We ended our session by picking out two new books to check out and read in the week to come."
"The student and I began by reviewing a multiplication sheet from his teacher. We went over the multiplication properties of zero and one. Then he reread a passage about the sun and the stars and had to complete vocabulary questions and critical thinking questions about the passage."
