Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over work the student had done with parallel line theorems and proofs in preparation for a test she has on Friday. We reviewed a quiz she had taken and went over a number of practice problems is her geometry book. I suggested she mark all congruent angles on the drawings and draw out simplified diagrams that only include the parallel lines and one transverse before working through proofs, which seemed to help her understand the problems she was struggling with."
"Today we worked on making proofs easier to tackle. I presented a plan for completing proofs and I think it helped the student better start and finish each proof. She should be getting a unit 2 study guide (review) later this week. We will look it over next week. I looked over her unit 1 study guide (review) and caught a couple small mistakes. Other than that, she's doing great."
"The student had a worksheet on basic and compound interest, and he worked on it. He was converting percents into decimals very well, and had no trouble setting up an equation for a word problem. The only thing he was unsure about was converting years and months into years. We did some extra practice on that. Overall it was a good session. I know he will do well on the quiz this Friday."
"During the first tutoring session the student and I went over congruent triangles; aas, sss, sas, asa, and HL. He completed his homework and we prepared for a test on Thursday. We then went over how to write a two column proof for congruent triangles, which he will be tested on Friday. He did two practice proofs. Finally, we discuss how to write 2 column proofs as flow charts. He said his teacher will be talking about this in a future class. He is a bright student and catches on very quickly."
"The student and I worked on the basic concepts of geometry yesterday. We focused on going over how to identify lines, segments, rays and angles. We spent a bit of time on measurement of angles. I pointed out some important concepts that will appear for the rest of the year, and I suggested writing out definitions to keep in the beginning of his notes. He also mentioned he would like to focus on organizing his notes in a different way."
"We went through and corrected the student's quiz from last Friday. We also finished working through the study guide for today's test. We did several problems that implemented the various theorems and postulates including those for two parallel and a transverse line, the distance formula and the midpoint formula. If she goes step by step, she is very capable of the executing the actual steps to solve the problem."
