Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The session with the student consisted of helping her with her homework assignment, which was a response to her reading. Once she completed that, she completed a language arts assessment."
"The student and I are continuing to work on expanding her vocabulary. We are also working on reading fluidity by having her read out loud. I am having her write longer answers in which she must provide evidence from the test and apply what she is writing to the literary terms that I have been teaching her. She is still learning her multiplication tables. We are working on word problems and cutting out the irrelevant information and understanding what remains. I am teaching her terms and how they apply in math such as finding the sum means to add and the difference to subtract so that she can continue to apply what she learns later. We are also working on her memorizing her multiplication tables of 1-9."
"The student and I are returning to our English lessons to try to better her performance in a few key areas of writing. Today we worked specifically on comma usage, which she continues to consistently make mistakes in. Next time we'll get to some composition where she will be tasked with correct comma usage according to the rules she reviewed today."
"The student and I are using two different books as platforms of discussion. I lent him some movies to help assimilate him into hearing and reading English for a longer percentage of his day."
"The student and I are working on letter recognition and spelling, and are practicing forming letters to improving handwriting. I think that she will benefit from practicing in between sessions, so I left her with worksheets and some practice pages. She is very bright."
"The student and I began a more in-depth study of deductive logic principles, particularly using truth tables. He was really engaged with this material - it definitely appealed to his more mathematical mindset. I not only provided him the rules to memorize, but the reasons for them, since I think understanding the underlying concepts makes it easier to use them, particularly in the ways it looks like his teachers in the course will ask him to. He did really well on the practice examples we worked through. He asked for some more practice with truth tables, which I prepared for him along with the outline for the next day."
