The student and I picked up where we left off last session, starting out with some factoring problems. To kill two birds with one stone, we used her homework as the source of problems, breaking each one down to understand why the correct answer is the correct answer. We continued on to some long-division, and worked on some reasoning skills combining long-division and factoring/multiples concepts. She seems to be gaining more confidence in her answers, instead of just looking to me to confirm whether they are correct or not. She also appears to be getting faster with her simple addition, although she still sometimes uses her fingers to count.

Yesterday, we went through the student's homework assignments. We went over random and continuous variables and probability and various permutations of those types of problems. A few of the student's homework assignments for next week were to simply take notes on the upcoming chapters, so we went over the key points from his chapters as well. He's well ahead of his class right now and we'll be pushing forward to the next chapter on Monday.

Student exceeded her expectations and received a B on her final that significantly boosted her grade to a B in chemistry. She also passed her math final with help from the last session. We worked on Venn diagrams and set notation for solving word problems. We reviewed what the notation meant and how it affects the problem-solving aspect of the work. Completed at least 22 examples of practice problems.

This session we practiced counting by multiples. The student is already comfortable with counting by 2's and 3's. He is very excited about the prospect of multiplying soon, so my goal was to booster his enthusiasm by showing him that repetitive addition is really just a long form of multiplication. We created a chart for 3's, 6's, 9's, and 12's. We then practiced the 3's again, and made connections between the 4 columns. He was surprised to see that some numbers like 36 were in all four columns. We then talked about the magic of nines. I showed him the trick with writing 0-9 backwards then forwards to create the multiples of nine. Next we practiced a song for the 6's. When I left, he was able to count by 3's, 6's, and 9's to their perspective 10. He is eager to learn the other prime numbers so that he can multiply.

I reviewed with the student the beginning of integration. We found integrals by calculating area under curves using geometry. We also reviewed the integral properties and found integrals by adding, subtracting, etc. various integrals over various limits.
