How can Math tutoring help you succeed?

If your child is experiencing difficulty in their math class, you may be wondering what your options are in terms of finding them the help they need. Perhaps they are struggling with basic concepts, such as how to use addition and subtraction. Or maybe more advanced topics are baffling to them, like how to use probability, or figuring out order of operations. Whatever the case may be, don't let your child struggle on their own anymore. Varsity Tutors' educational directors will connect you and your child with a math tutor in Mesa, AZ, who could help them pursue their goals.

Math is a subject that is required in elementary school through college. It is also covered on state standardized tests, like the AzMERIT. Getting a head start on the subject now will greatly benefit your child as they go on to more advanced studies in the future. Varsity Tutors can find your child a math tutor in Mesa, AZ, who could break down the basic concepts of math to make sure they understand the big picture. Your child's tutor can make use of visual aids, such as clocks for telling time, or pretend currency to help them with their money skills. They can also supply your child with mock exams and flashcards, to help be ready for test days, as well as think on their feet. Tutoring can be on only one subject your child has problems with, or everything they have learned so far in class. The choice is up to you.

We solved the first part of her project for algebra and then we went through her chemistry lab report and calculated wavelength and frequency of different kind of metal when they burn according to their color. She is doing great and understands whatever we cover.

Math Tutoring review by Travis in Mesa, AZ
The student and I first reviewed for his AP Statistics quiz. We talked about the normal distribution and how to determine the z score of a sample and then use that information to predict the likelihood that the mean of that sample fell within a certain range. We also reviewed box-and-whisker plots, standard deviation, and variance. Toward the end of the sessions, we worked on AP Calculus and practiced problems involving implicit differentiation.

Today the student and I worked through some of his Algebra II homework. We covered linear equations; specifically, finding the slope of a line through two points, collinearity, and tips for quickly solving problems (e.g. with the same y-coordinates, a line will have a slope of 0). The session progressed well and the student took to the material.

Math Tutoring review by Emily in Mesa, AZ
During this session, the student and I worked on her review packet for her final test. We covered mean, median, and mode, ratios, percentages, and some word problems of varying topics. A big part of our review has been controlling her stress level and building her confidence, so we have been doing little reviews at the beginning of each topic in order to avoid blank-outs or panics. She was very successful with mean, median, and mode, not only with straight computation but also with related word problems.. For percentages, we did need to review how to turn percents into decimals and fractions, but apart from that she was fine. Lastly, with word problems, which have always been her biggest struggle, we emphasized vocabulary and "key words" that would signal certain strategies or operations, in addition to methods such as charts and let statements. She hadn't been assigned the word problem section of her packet yet, but we went through it together, and I broke it into manageable chunks of 5-6 problems each for her to work on throughout the week so as to avoid being faced with a massive group of them later on. I left her with a plan for her studying for the week.
