Tutoring review by Pieta in Fortville, IN
The student explained how when she learned division in school, it was a quick lesson, and she didn't fully grasp it. Then her father explained it, and she was so proud at having mastered it! She only missed 4 problems of her homework, so I had her go back and refigure. She realizes how memorizing her multiplication table helps her in division. The mistakes she made were mostly those she didn't have memorized; she has the process down. We had time left to work on math, and began with a problem which stumped her last time. It was a visual problem showing a pattern from one array of dots to another. Homework: I wrote her homework on the back page of her notebook. We discussed dedicating that page for homework so she always knows where to look. Keeping up with these skills from week to week will ensure she is ready and confident for math, as she begins a new year.

Tutoring review by Carin in Fortville, IN
The student's teacher gave him some extra credit work so that he can try to improve his grade. He only gets the credit for one if he makes a high enough score. We worked on four of the lessons. Three of them he did well (one had no errors at all), but the fourth one was a bit harder. It dealt in finding missing angles and leg lengths of right triangles and required identifying and labeling and using trig as well as the quadratic equation to solve. After finishing that, we moved on to his current homework. It involved finding the areas of different shapes, such as cylinders, cones and hemispheres. He knew two of the equations needed, and we looked up the third, so he should be able to finish it, no problem. As long as he remains focused and motivated and does the work, he should be able to improve his grade notably.

We did some problems with complex numbers using DeMoivre's Theorem, a trig identity, and we found the distance from a point to a line. We also worked on a geometry problem, finding the area of a regular polygon given its perimeter.
