Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued reviewing the laws of sine and cosine. We worked on a packet involving a diagram which contained both right and other times of triangles. We used the trigonometric functions as well as the law of sines and cosines to find the missing sides and angles in the diagram."
"The student and I studied assigned problems from page 34 of the Exeter text, including proofs involving parallelograms and right triangles. Cameron has yet to receive his first two exam scores, I will be better able to assess his progress when these are available."
"Since the student's teacher has prepared a lot before I arrived, and the student had been studying the subject, the session went very smooth. We focused on the theorems and postulates the student's teacher circled out. I started to explain some of the theorems, then asked her to explain the rest. I also tried to show to her that the theorems and postulates should be understood, not memorized: their intention, their prerequisite. We then worked on the practice sheet that the student's teacher prepared. The student did well on those. If she could keep practicing in this way, her grade should improve shortly."
"Today we started with a geometry review for his test tomorrow. He actually did really well on the review; I only needed to jump in to correct his work a couple of times. He retained a lot from the last session and was able to use it again, which I was pleasantly surprised about. However, chemistry is a different story. He was having some trouble. I worked with him on that, especially on the ionic part and showed him a new way to diagram it that I think really helped him. I'll have to keep going over it with him to really reinforce it but I think I'm learning how to teach him - he's very visual so lots of drawings and pictures and diagrams help."
"We worked on the student's geometry homework - she's doing really well! We also did Spanish vocabulary and homework together, and then we worked from the timed readings book for the first time."
"The student had a geometry test scheduled for Friday, so his mother scheduled a session to help him further prepare for his test. We discussed his review packet and went over his quizzes from the chapter, correcting his mistakes so that he knew how to work each problem. We then went over some test taking strategies to help him overcome some of the test taking anxiety he has been having with testing in this class."
