Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had really improved tonight. He was able to perform well on word problems. I answered questions regarding the new subject matter: probability. I am trying to encourage him to write more and show how he reaches his answers."
"Her homework was more on functions, this time with third and fourth order graphs, determining the roots, and range, and other properties you can figure out from the graphs. After we finished that, we did more problems from the textbook, word problems, and concept problems. Then we went over more radical problems."
"We did a brief consultation to learn about the student's learning style and then proceeded to work through practice problems for her Algebra test. For this session, we reviewed linear functions and different forms and applications of slope-intercept equations."
"The student and I reviewed the first half of chapter 7 and she seemed much more confident with her work this time. We also completed the mid chapter quiz and started another section that was a bit more difficult. The student has the concept of negative exponents down but struggled a bit with the word problems, however I think this is due to the word problems being a new concept since it's difficult to translate words into equations. Once she writes the formulas, she is able to easily simplify them. With more practice I'm sure she'll complete word problems with ease."
"The student has a test on Friday, so we reviewed some more of the material, focusing primarily on word problems. The student had done some of the problems in class, but he didn't necessarily understand the reasoning behind all of the steps, nor the real meaning behind the equations in the systems in correspondence with the information in the problem. We worked through several problems, explaining at each step what the equations and graphs were really telling us (time in relation to resources, items in relation to money, etc.). By the end, the relationship between the questions and the math made more sense to the student. He has also greatly improved on rearranging equations, as well as distributing correctly."
"Today we did a review for the student's exam tomorrow, covering: - inequalities - finding y-intercept - function notation - word problems"
