Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I had a great session with the student. We made sure the assignments due for the next day were completed, which were the obituary and bibliography for his Facebook project. I was delighted to see that he had already completed his bibliography and had formatted it properly. I had him go over the entire review sheet and to star each word and question he wasn't sure on. I told him to study a set amount of words each day and to work on four questions a night. I requested that he email me the answers for the four questions each night so I could test for accuracy and keep him accountable. He seemed willing and determined to press through this tough week of exams."
"I helped the student develop a strategy for studying for an upcoming unit exam. We decided to start with a list of key terms he was given to help him prepare. I helped him budget his study time so that he covers as much of the material as possible in that time. I was also able to help clarify some relationships and terms we covered, coaching him through the first blocks of time."
"I worked with the student to write an AP US History document-based question essay, covering the 1825-1855 reform movement period. He was diligent in producing a well-turned out essay with a strong thesis that included discussion of each of the seven documents provided. I appreciated his positive attitude to complete a difficult assignment and look forward to working with him in the future."
"Tonight we focused mainly on writing. We evaluated a previous writing assignment and discussed how the student could have added additional information to earn full credit. We discussed her homework discussion questions and outlined her essay question with historical evidence and synthesis. We next reviewed the AP History writing rubrics discussing the similarities and contrast from AP US to AP World History. We evaluated the 2002 DBQ documents for purpose, audience, author, and historical evidence discussing how this DBQ would be written for the new rubric."
"We started taking notes on the student's next chapter, over which he will have a quiz on Friday. We got about halfway through, so he will have to finish them tonight or tomorrow. I also advised him to go over the key terms in the PDF he has."
"We started out by setting our goals for the week, and discussing what the student wanted to accomplish. We decided to give extra time to History, as the history assignments seemed to be more intense. We started in on history, discussing the origins of humanity and our transition from Paleolithic nomads to Neolithic and Bronze Age farmers. We discussed a lot of sociology, and talked about how people have a need to organize themselves. We ended by talking about ancient civilizations of the near east."
