We worked on the concept of net ionic reactions; figuring out oxidation numbers (or states) based on formulas of ionic compounds, anions, cations; and doing the math of balancing out the charges to obtain either a zero or net positive/negative charge. We also worked on what ionic reactions would likely produce a precipitate (insoluble compound that appears as a solid) when two aqueous solutions are mixed. The note to make is we're only interested in the net ionic reaction that produced a solid precipitate, the other ions stayed in solution (aqueous). I gave the student the task of looking up certain terms, "disproportionation reaction" for their definition, and to see if that definition changed any of the work we did with classifying reactions. Redox reactions could be confusing, so it's good to have more practice with those, especially identifying which element is losing (oxidizing) and which element is gaining (reducing) electrons.
