Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Worked in greater detail on arithmetic problems of the math section. Focused on order of operations (PEMDAS), fractions, decimals, percents and word problems. Finished session working on difficult vocabulary and short passage analysis."
"Since today was our first session, we first spent some time getting to know one another. Reviewed the student's SAT score from her first time taking the exam. Identified her weaknesses and her strengths. Due to the lack of remaining time before her exam, we agreed to focus more on practice and repetition to improve her performance. Reviewed structure of SAT exam, and went over test-taking strategies and tips. Gave her several math questions to try, and saw she needed to refresh her math skills, as well as her time management. Gave her 1 section from each section on the SAT for homework to be reviewed on Thursday."
"The student and I reviewed a full practice prep test she took over the weekend. Because she did not score as well as she has on individual practice sections. We spent some time going over time management and longer test taking strategies. We then went over the sections of the test, focusing on difficult topics. For Wednesday, the student will take another practice test."
"In the short time I have been working with the student I can tell that she is willing to work hard. This will be vital to her success with the ACT. She has already begun to better understand the math section of the exam, and has been improving accordingly."
"The student and I continued working through the practice book. She had done some practice problems with what seemed like greater ease then before. We reviewed concepts that are likely to come up on the test. For example, how to set up and then solve equations involving substitution. I tried to put emphasis on having an "active hand," that is to say, underlining key points in the problem, writing out the mental math, and drawing pictures in order to simplify problems by giving them visual representation."
"We went over substitution again. The student has developed a good grasp of substitution at this point. We went over the reading section she did for practice. She is doing well on the reading, and did the section in time, so that is good. We also started on writing and went over concepts up to affect and effect. For homework she is to finish the two remaining practice sessions of the test she took before do the next reading section."
