Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student's teacher has introduced the different uses of "por" and "para", so we spent this entire session creating a list of the different uses and some general mnemonic tips. Then, because I think this subject is especially well illustrated by rote learning, we spent the rest of the session on practice sentences and online quizzes. She seems to have mastered the topic."
"The student and I had a great session today! I can see an improvement in her language skills and she required nearly no or little help completing her homework assignment. She has now passed the introductory lessons of the subjunctive tense and is working on utilizing it in context. We reviewed conjugations for ar and -er/-ir verbs in the subjunctive and also discussed irregular verbs. With some supplementary notes I provided her with during our session, I think she will have an easier time with the subjunctive than she had with some other tenses she was learning last semester. Job well done!"
"In this session we practiced analyzing different works of art using academic vocabulary and art related terms. We talked about themes, styles, and composition using visual examples from different time periods studied in class."
"We started out with a quick review of the uses of ser and estar, and the preterite and imperfect. The student just had an exam on the two topics, and while he felt pretty good about it overall, he still wanted a little more practice with knowing when to use the preterite versus the imperfect for sentences in the past tense. After doing several sets of exercises with preterite and imperfect, we moved on to oral exercises with the past tenses. He seems to have a solid understanding of the rules for using the imperfect and preterite. Finally, at the end of the class, I offered him several tips for improving his listening comprehension and pronunciation in his spare time by seeking out films, podcasts, and music."
"The student and I reviewed formal commands for a quiz the following day, then focused the rest of the time on the subjunctive tense. We spent some time at the end of the session practicing conversation."
"The student did a great job learning about conjugating aimer and learning all the pronouns. I was really impressed!"
