Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today and last week, the student and I did roots of rational functions, a tricky topic for many students. I saw that she did very well on her quiz, so we pressed on to her review packet and talked about all the types of questions she could face this week. I think she'll do fine, even with this difficult topic."
"Today I helped the student with a gigantic math project that he had to complete. Since his class has been studying area and nets, his teacher is having them create a scale model of a mailbox. He was working so hard today, even though he was a bit lost since he had never done anything like this before. He took such careful measurements and really was paying attention when I was showing him how to draw a diagram. I think he is going to be very proud of the finished product."
"Today I worked with the student to review her homework packet on rates and ratios. When she completed the packet, we did several practice problems from the online question bank, reviewing rates, ratios, and graphs. I followed the "I do, we do, you do" model with her, talking through a problem with her, guiding her work for a second similar problem, and having her do it on her own for a third. She did very well!"
"Today session was dedicated to reviewing for tomorrow's test. We worked through the review and solved quadratic equations many different ways. The most difficult technique for the student was completing the square when the leading coefficient was greater than 1. I worked through these problems with him and gave tips as I guided him to the correct solutions. We finished today's session solving linear quadratic equations by graphing. I give him a tutorial on how to use the calculator to find the intersection of the two curves."
"Today student one worked on ratios and proportions, and she did very well. Student two wanted to work on long division, so I gave him practice problems he was able to do them all. Student three has a test coming up on the distributive property and simplifying equations. We did his homework and a practice test, and he did very well with the material."
"Today the girls and I worked on adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominators and different denominators. We also worked with mixed fractions. The girls did extremely well and are getting fast at doing problems as well! They had more difficulty with the different denominators, especially when the GCD was a large number. We will continue to work on this next session."
