Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we talked more about finding the volume of solids using disks, washers, and cross sections. The student was extremely comfortable with all of the material. We were also able to review a little from the previous section."
"We went over synthetic division. We used synthetic substitution to evaluate equations. We factored polynomials and found zeros using synthetic division. He said he understood everything and I had him tell me how to do some of the problems to make sure he understood."
"Today I helped the student prepare for her algebra exam tomorrow. We covered topics such as multiplying/dividing/adding/subtracting fractions and how they can apply to word problems. We also reviewed introductory conics: circles."
"We are continuing the review of exponential and logarithmic functions. We began with the practice of exponential rules and went through the log and exp forms of equations, then we covered the domain, interception, asymptote and transformation of the log functions. The student needs more practice to get familiar with the technology."
"For the second session, we looked at differentiation (as based on the limit of the difference quotient), general rules of differentiation, differentiation of polynomials, e^x, trig functions, and the product and quotient rules. The student seemed to be understanding the material and what rules to apply in different situations well."
"In review of past material, we looked at optimization problems and compared them in form to related rates problems. In a quick look-ahead for active class material, we looked at linear approximation, concepts and methods. I see a problem with fractions that keeps coming back to give the student pauses while she's doing her algebra. We've concluded that in a test scenario, the best thing is to use her calculator to get a decimal, while, in practice, we will focus on good fraction math."
