Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we went over the student's math homework on conversions, measurements, multiplication and long division. Afterward, she completed a sample 5th grade citywide test, in which she finished in a timely manner and showed excellent competency in the subject."
"The student received his previous test that covered areas of parallelograms, trapezoids, and triangles. The grade was not very good although we both had confidence he would do well prior to the test. Most of our time was spent going over problems that were missed and evaluating why the student was not able to solve them correctly."
"Currently, the focus is on converting percents into fractions and decimals and then using this new knowledge to find percents of other numbers. The student worked slowly and somewhat cautiously through the first few, but once she picked up on the pattern she completed the section with ease. The student knows how to convert word sentences into equations which is a great skill for this section! She continues to struggle a bit with word problems but we will continue to work on this. We also found that the student preferred using fractions to solve as opposed to decimals."
"Today was my first session with this student for the school year. To begin the session, we discussed what classes she is in for the school year. Several of them sound very interesting. During today's session she worked on her class, discrete math. She completed her homework with converting large decimals into fractions. We then worked on converting fractions into decimals and deciding whether or not they repeated or if they terminated. After she completed this work, she worked on her anatomy and physiology class. She completed questions about basic body systems. She is very excited this year about school. She was actually happy today to discuss her teachers and what kind of year it was going to be. I am very happy that she does like school this year and is motivated to succeed."
"The student and I had our last session and went over the last homework assignment that I gave her. She did extremely well and now knows how to find slope using two points or from a graph. We went over x and y intercepts once more and she now knows how to do that too! I am very pleased with her progress and excited for her to start high school algebra."
"Today we talked about lines and made several additional flashcards. Afterwards the student was able to identify things like slope and y-intercept given the proper form of the line."
